The exceptional conditions here, both in terms of climate and sea currents provide unique conditions for diving, the exceptional visibility is something you will never forget, it possible to observe several species of underwater fauna and flora.
Marine life here is stunning. Expect large groups of manta rays, amberjack, tunas, barracudas and much more. There is also constant presence of moray eels and shoals of colorful fish. The Azores are undoubtedly one of the best places for diving in Europe, and dive sites cater for all tastes and experience levels, such as the Ambrosio, Dollabarat, Formigas and many more.
In Santa Maria the diving season is from June until October because of the adverse sea and weather conditions during the winter. But don’t get this wrong, during this 3/4 months you can expect water temperature around 23 degrees amazing visibilities and huge amounts of sea life.
The easy way to arrive in Santa Maria is flying from Lisbon that have direct daily flights.
