The Isla del Cano Nature Reserve is often referred to as one of the best dive sites in Costa Rica. There are many water sports around Isla del Cano such as scuba diving, snorkeling and whale watching. The island area and the incredible biodiversity of the area have been protected as a biological reserve since 1978. The area is famous for its good visibility and warm water, making it a very good place for diving. When to dive Osa Peninsula - Drake Bay

The diving season in Costa Rica starts in December and lasts until June. This is therefore the best time for a diving trip. During this time, conditions for diving are ideal, and the water temperature remains within the limits of 24-29°C (75-84°F). Visibility underwater reaches up to 30m (98 ft).

During the rainy season, conditions change and the water temperature drops. During this period, however, you can see many interesting animals, which is why the diving season around Caño Island lasts practically all year round.

If you want to dive in Isla del Cano, the best place to start is Uvita. It is a few hours drive from the capital, and the road is convenient and very easy. From there, you will have to take a dive boat trip that can take about an hour to reach the island.
