Sunset Reef gets its name from being a favourite local spot to watch the sunset—though since the sun doesn’t set in the east, you’ll need a boat far enough south to see it dip into the water during winter months.
This shallow reef is ideal for new divers completing check-outs or Discover Scuba experiences. But don’t be fooled—it’s no beginner’s site! Some of our rarest and most exciting critter sightings have happened here. Macro Mania divers love spending ages searching for tiny marine life, and even world-renowned photographer Dr. Alex Mustard includes this site in his Cayman workshops.
With a sandy bottom no deeper than 22 feet, the site is packed with coral heads and critters. Directly under the boat lies a historic anchor from the 1794 Wreck of the Ten Sails. Discovered offshore in 1980 by Indiana University, it was moved here so divers can experience a real piece of history up close.
