Wellington diving is very weather dependent, we are a temperate location with water temperatures in of 15-17 degrees Celsius and visibility of 5-10m. We wear 7mm wetsuits while we go diving. Our sites are rocky reefs covered in seaweed with sponges and anemones adding colour. We can also dive in the harbour looking for seahorses, skate and other critters. Most of our dives are ~6-12m deep and only a couple of sites offer depths over 18m.
We have a marine reserve along the south coast of Wellington. The Taputeranga Marine Reserve in Island Bay was established in 2008 offers divers and snorkelers a glimpse of an abundant ecosystem with plenty of colour from anemones and sponges as well as plenty of fish and other marine species.
We dive year round and winter night dives are spectacular but the popular summer season would be December through to the end of May.
There are a range of sites around Wellington, ~ 10-20 minutes drive from the city.
