Diving in Okinawa features vibrant coral reefs, steep walls, caves, and historic wrecks set in warm, subtropical waters. Popular areas such as Kerama Islands, Ishigaki, Miyakojima, and Yonaguni are known for exceptional visibility and rich marine life, including turtles, reef sharks, manta rays, and schooling fish. With calm conditions, modern dive facilities, and year-round access, Okinawa scuba diving appeals to beginners, advanced divers, and underwater photographers alike.
Thanks to its subtropical climate, scuba diving in Okinawa is possible throughout the year. The most popular season runs from April to October, when sea temperatures are warm and visibility is at its best. Summer months offer ideal conditions for reef diving and manta encounters, particularly around Ishigaki. Winter diving remains excellent as well, with cooler water and fewer crowds, while hammerhead sharks are often sighted between January and March near certain offshore sites. This year-round appeal makes Okinawa a top Japan diving destination.
