Diving in Iraq is extremely limited and largely undeveloped, with only a short stretch of coastline along the northern Persian Gulf near Basra. The marine environment is influenced by the Shatt al-Arab river system, which brings heavy sediment and nutrients into the gulf, resulting in low underwater visibility. While marine life exists in these nutrient-rich waters, Iraq does not currently have an established scuba diving industry or recreational dive tourism infrastructure. Most underwater activity in Iraqi waters is related to scientific research, offshore industry operations, and environmental monitoring rather than leisure diving.
