Guanaja marks the beginning of the second largest barrier reef in the world – the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. With a mixture of pinnacles, vertical walls, lava tunnels and one of the most sought-after wrecks in the Caribbean, Guanaja is a joy for all divers.
Guanaja offers some of the healthiest coral reefs in the Caribbean- several species of coral including the rare black coral and tiny black-spotted nudibranchs make the reef system an ideal place for macro photography. It's no surprise the area has a reputation for offering world-class diving.
Getting to Guanaja, Honduras for scuba diving is easy with a few travel steps. Most visitors fly into Roatan or La Ceiba via international flights or domestic connections from San Pedro Sula. From there, you can take a short domestic flight to Guanaja with local airlines. There are also ferry and boat transfers available from Roatan, though flights are the fastest option. While more remote than Roatan or Utila, Guanaja rewards travelers with uncrowded dive sites, crystal-clear waters, and access to the stunning Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.
