Port Ghalib, on Egypt’s southern Red Sea coast, is a diver’s paradise with easy access to pristine offshore reefs and famous dive sites like Elphinstone. The crystal-clear waters reveal dramatic coral walls, colorful pinnacles, and abundant marine life, from reef fish and turtles to pelagic species like oceanic whitetip and hammerhead sharks. Many dive spots boast visibility of over 30 meters, making it ideal for both photography and drift diving. The marina offers modern dive centers, liveaboard departures, and convenient shore dives, while the surrounding desert backdrop adds to the sense of adventure.
Diving in Port Ghalib is excellent all year, with peak months from March to June and September to November, when water temperatures range from 25°C–28°C (77°F–82°F) and conditions are calm. Summer (July–August) sees warmer seas up to 30°C (86°F), perfect for long dives, though air temperatures can be very hot. Winter (December–February) offers quieter sites, slightly cooler waters around 22°C (72°F), and superb visibility. For shark encounters at Elphinstone, late spring and autumn are the most rewarding times.
Port Ghalib is conveniently located just 10 minutes from Marsa Alam International Airport (RMF), which receives direct flights from Europe and domestic connections from Cairo. Upon arrival, private transfers, taxis, or hotel shuttles provide quick access to the marina and resorts. For travelers arriving via Hurghada International Airport (HRG), the journey is around 3–4 hours by road along the scenic Red Sea coast. Many divers also arrive as part of liveaboard itineraries, embarking or disembarking at Port Ghalib’s modern harbor. Its proximity to key dive sites makes it one of the most accessible and well-connected diving hubs in southern Egypt.
