December to Aprilbrings dry, sunny weather and calm seas—ideal for marine visibility and consistent dive trips. These are the most popular months for visitors. May to August offers a quieter atmosphere with warm water and good marine activity, despite the occasional shower. September and October are part of the rainy season, which may reduce visibility and limit ocean access. However, sea temperatures typically range from 26°C to 29°C, making Potrero a viable dive spot no matter the season—with planning.
Getting to Potrero, Costa Rica, is convenient and scenic, especially via Liberia International Airport (LIR), which is about an hour’s drive away. From the airport, travelers can rent a car, arrange a private transfer, or take a shuttle along well-maintained roads through the Guanacaste region. If you’re coming from San José International Airport (SJO), the drive is longer—roughly 4.5 to 5 hours—but offers a chance to see the countryside. Domestic flights to Tamarindoor Liberia can also reduce travel time. Once in Potrero, visitors enjoy easy access to dive shops, tranquil beaches, boutique hotels, and nearby hotspots like Playa Flamingo and Las Catalinas.
