The best time to dive in Paraty is between October and March, when water temperatures are warmer (around 24–28°C) and visibility is at its peak. The summer months, especially December to February, offer ideal conditions with calm seas and vibrant marine life, although these months can be busier. For quieter diving with still excellent conditions, October, November, and March are recommended. The winter months (June to August) bring cooler waters and occasional rough seas, which may affect dive site accessibility. Overall, spring and summer provide the most rewarding scuba diving experience in Paraty.
Paraty is conveniently located on Brazil’s Costa Verde, about 250 km from Rio de Janeiro and 270 km from São Paulo, making it accessible by road and air. The closest major airport is Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International Airport (GIG), with domestic and international flights. From Rio, Paraty can be reached via a scenic 4-hour drive along the BR-101 highway and coastal roads, offering beautiful views of mountains and sea. Buses also run regularly from Rio and São Paulo to Paraty. Once in town, dive operators are based near the historic center and local marinas, providing easy boat access to dive sites like Ilha Comprida. For a seamless journey to one of Brazil’s premier dive locations, driving or taking a bus from Rio is the best choice.
