Ayia Napa and Protaras are among the most popular scuba diving destinations in Cyprus, known for calm Mediterranean waters, excellent visibility and a long diving season. The region offers a wide variety of dive sites suitable for both beginner and experienced divers, including rocky reefs, canyons, tunnels, caverns and wrecks.
Local marine life commonly includes sea bream, octopus, moray eels, nudibranchs and seasonal turtle sightings. Divers can also explore underwater sculptures at the MUSAN Underwater Museum, historical artifacts and famous wreck sites such as the Liberty and Nemesis wrecks.
Shore diving is particularly popular around Cape Greco and Green Bay due to easy entries, clear waters and mild conditions, making the area ideal for training, relaxed recreational dives and underwater photography throughout most of the year.
Scuba diving in Cyprus is possible throughout the year thanks to mild Mediterranean weather and generally calm sea conditions. Ayia Napa and Protaras are particularly popular between May and October, when water temperatures are warmer, visibility is excellent and marine life activity increases.
Summer offers warm, comfortable diving conditions ideal for beginners, training and relaxed recreational dives, while spring and autumn often provide excellent visibility and quieter dive sites. Winter diving remains popular with experienced divers due to stable conditions and reduced underwater traffic.
Most visitors travelling to Ayia Napa and Protaras arrive through Larnaca International Airport, located approximately 45–60 minutes from the region depending on traffic and destination. The area is accessible by taxi, airport shuttle services, rental car and intercity buses connecting major towns across Cyprus.
Many popular dive sites around Cape Greco, Green Bay and Protaras are reachable within a short drive from local accommodation areas, making the region convenient for both day trips and longer diving holidays.
