Diving Lake Atter

Explore diving Lake Atter

Nestled in the Salzkammergut region, Lake Atter (Attersee) is Austria’s most famous freshwater diving destination. Known for its exceptional visibility—often reaching up to 25 meters, Attersee offers crystal-clear conditions ideal for wreck dives, underwater photography, and training dives. Divers can explore steep walls, underwater forests, and fascinating rock formations, with popular sites like Hinkelsteine, Schwarze Brücke, and Nussdorf. Cold, clear waters attract both beginners and advanced divers, while pike, perch, and trout glide through the depths. Combining alpine scenery with pristine diving, Lake Atter delivers an unforgettable underwater experience in the heart of Austria.

When to dive Lake Atter

The best time to dive in Lake Atter is between May and October, when the water temperature rises to a comfortable 15–20°C and conditions are calm. During these warmer months, visibility peaks, offering breathtaking views of Attersee’s underwater rock walls and vegetation. Winter diving, while colder, provides even clearer water and fewer visitors, ideal for advanced divers. Each season brings unique charm—summer for relaxed scenic dives, autumn for tranquil conditions, and winter for crystal clarity. No matter the time, Lake Atter stands out as one of Europe’s top freshwater diving sites for its unmatched clarity and alpine beauty.
