Big Wall is one of Zanzibar’s most impressive and exhilarating dive sites, offering a dramatic underwater landscape combined with rich marine life and excellent diving conditions. As the name suggests, the defining feature of this site is a towering reef wall that drops away into deep blue water, creating a sense of scale and adventure from the moment you descend.
The dive typically begins on a shallow reef top before the seabed suddenly gives way to the wall itself. Covered in hard and soft corals, sponges, and sea fans, the wall descends steeply, disappearing into deeper water beyond recreational limits. This vertical drop creates a stunning visual effect and provides a perfect habitat for a wide variety of marine species. Divers can choose their depth and follow the wall along its contour, making the site suitable for intermediate to advanced divers, while still being accessible to confident beginners under the right conditions.
