Vilamendhoo Thila is a beautiful and lesser-known dive site located near Vilamendhoo Island Resort in South Ari Atoll. It’s a medium-sized submerged pinnacle (thila) offering excellent coral coverage, abundant marine life, and generally calm diving conditions—ideal for intermediate divers and equally enjoyable for advanced ones who appreciate a relaxed dive full of life.
The top of the thila lies around 10–12 meters deep, covered in hard corals, table corals, and anemones hosting clownfish. The reef slopes descend to 25–30 meters, adorned with soft corals, sea fans, and sponges.
The site teems with reef fish such as fusiliers, snappers, anthias, triggerfish, and bannerfish, along with pelagic species like jackfish, tunas, grey reef sharks, white-tip sharks, and eagle rays. Macro life is also frequently spotted. Seasonal visitors such as manta rays appear during the northeast monsoon, and whale sharks are often seen cruising along the nearby outer reef.
