The reef is an 8 metre tall sloped rock running east-west, on an otherwise sandy bottom. From any anchor location, you can head off along the reef on either the northern or southern side. The northern side drops as a wall from the ridge down to several gutters, overhangs, cracks and sporadic rocks. The gutters shelter grey nurse sharks, port jackson sharks, wobbegong sharks, fiddler rays, shovelnose rays, and turtles.
When diving this site, it is important that divers respect the sharks in the gutters. Stay at 5 metres or so along the slope of the gutter in the kelp so the Grey Nurse sharks are not disturbed.
Eastern blue grouper will follow divers around the site. The water temperature at Latitude Rock varies from 16 to 24 degrees, and visibility can range from 7 to 25 meters. Be aware of other boats in the area.
