Curious about technical (tec) diving, but not sure about jumping into a certification course? Discover Tec is a short, confined water experience to try out technical diving. You get to wear all the extra tec diving gear and take it for a test dive. Your PADI Tec Instructor may introduce a few basic skills, such as primary to secondary regulator switch and gas shutdown procedures.

To try Discover Technical diving, you must meet these qualifications:

  • PADI Open Water Diver
  • Minimum of 10 logged dives
  • 15 years old
Instructor with students at a table in a thatch hut.

Your PADI® Tec 40 Instructor will review the dive equipment and how to use it. You'll get in the water, make dive gear adjustments, explore, and get a feel for how the dive equipment works.

Discover Tec may credit toward the Tec Basics or Tec 40 course if you successfully complete the Tec Basics Dive One, Part One required skills or Tec 40 Training Dive One, Part One. Ask your dive instructor about this option if you're interested.

Available Languages

For information on other available languages please contact your PADI Dive Center.

You'll want to have your dive mask, scuba fins and exposure suit. Your PADI Tec 40 Instructor will have the technical diving equipment including but not limited to, two tanks, primary and backup regulators, and a technical diving BCD (wing BCD) suitable for back mount or sidemount diving.
