Spain is one of the best European countries for diving. Catalonia possibly offers the best diving. Here, you can find a wide range of shipwrecks, seamounts and corals in a warm and safe environment.
Costa Brava, is the most popular diving destination in Catalonia. Here divers will find Los Ullastres, a series of three underwater peaks; the Medes Islands with their protected seabed; Cap de Creus, the first Maritime-Terrestrial Natural Park in Spain; and the Formigues Islands which are home to a long history of shipwrecks. South of Girona, the main metropolitan area of Barcelona is also home to several dive sites.
Diving in Catalonia is possible throughout the year, although winter temperatures are a bit cooler than those felt during the hot summer months. Water temperatures range between 60 and 75 °F (16 and 24 °C) throughout the year. Most dives are done from a boat, although in certain areas a limited number of shore dives are possible.
If you are interested in diving in Spain, consider Catalonia as your destination. It has some of the best and most diverse dive sites, but it is much less crowded than other areas of the Spanish coast.
Barcelona International Airport is a European hub that receives flights from all over the world. It is also possible to fly to Girona airport, Reus airport or Lleida airport. Also, many visitors arrive by train or bus from other parts of Spain or Europe.
