This week’s Video of the Week, from DW, takes a behind-the-scenes look at the recently-opened Museo Atlantico in Lanzarote.

The video includes footage taken by some of the first scuba divers to visit the underwater museum, with a tour of the sculptures including the Raft of Lampedusa and The Rubicon, and a fascinating view of how marine life has already started to grow on these ghostly underwater artworks in such a short space of time.

The video also features an interview with the museum’s artist, Jason deCaires Taylor, who talks about his inspirations and the messages behind his choice of sculptures, plus an insight into how they were created and installed, and what the future holds for Europe’s largest underwater museum.

The Museo Atlantico is located in clear blue waters off the coast of Lanzarote, Spain and opened to visitors last month. The unique, permanent installation can be found 14m beneath the surface and is accessible to snorkelers and divers. Contact a PADI Dive Shop in Lanzarote to book your trip.
