With over 17,508 islands, Indonesia is situated in the heart of the Coral Triangle and is a diver's paradise. From tiny pygmy seahorses and grand creatures to magnificent manta rays and powerful mola, there's much to see.
Enjoy exhilarating rafting and reef diving, fantastic night dives, unique mud dives, and breathtaking steep walls. Tec divers explore deep trenches, while wreck divers appreciate the many relics from World War II. Indonesia has something for everyone, budget and vacation taste, with possibilities as rich and diverse as its marine life.
Generally, the best time to visit is between May and September, when the weather is dry and sunny. However, during the rainy season, temperatures remain high, and rainfall occurs in the form of intense tropical downpours that often last for several hours and won't ruin your trip.
With over 250 airports (20 of which are international airports), flights to and around Indonesia can be completed relatively easily. Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) is the main airport for the capital, Jakarta, while Juanda International Airport (SUB) and Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) are the second and third largest international airports in terms of passenger volume, respectively.
Once in the country, AirAsia, Kalstar, and Lion Air offer budget airlines covering many of Indonesia's islands. When planning a trip from any Western country, remember to obtain your passport and visa in advance.
