After the day’s diving activities, steady rain was falling and it was feared the evening’s program would be very damp. But, by 6.00pm the weather had cleared and relieved organisers and 475 hungry PADI Divers met at the KAL Hotel, Seogwipo Jeju Island for a splendid buffet dinner. Also attending Jeju for the festivities were Danny Dwyer (Director, Marketing & Business Development) and Mark Spiers (Director, Sales & Field Services) who gave the opening address at the onset of the dinner.
During the evening, PADI Members and their friends enjoyed the talents of professional comedian Joo Chul Kim, who’s repertoire engaged and amused the crowd. A talent contest was also on the agenda involving various teams of Dive Centres and individuals who had prepared their acts in advance for the audience.
The highlight of the night was the PADI Specialty Course Awards with major prizes attached. The prizes were presented by the various Sponsorship Representatives to 3 PADI Instructors and 3 PADI Specialty divers who had achieved the most PADI Specialty courses in 2012. The 6 final winners were determined by a Lucky Draw.
The balance of the huge prize pool was awarded to the participants by way of a Lucky Raffle draw which engrossed their attention in the latter part of the evening.
The festival was organised by Boo Kyung Kim (PADI Asia Pacific Regional Manager, Korea) and he was assisted by Young Hee Haniss (PAD Asia Pacific Member Liaison, Korea) and Sharon Loh (PADI Asia Pacific Senior Marketing Executive) .

PADI Instructor Development Course and Instructor Exam in Korea
The first ever Western PADI Instructor Development Course in South Korea was recently conducted in Osan in participation with PADI Dive Centre,Aquatic Frontier and award winning Platinum PADI Course Director Camille Lemmens.
The six participants came well prepared and it was a fun and enjoyable IDC during which the candidates learned a lot about how to teach classroom, confined and open water presentations and were also updated on written exams. The facilities were outstanding which allowed for a very professional PADI IDC to be conducted. The candidates are now ready to become good instructors in the ‘real’ world. It was an international affair with candidates originating from The United States of America, Taiwan and South Korea.
The PADI Instructor Exam took place on the East coast of the Korean peninsula, in a small seaside town by the name of Deoksan and was conducted expertly by Korean Instructor Examiner, Boo Kyung Kim.
The drive from Osan to Deoksan was interesting and gave everyone time to get a glimpse of the Korean country side, including the hills of the ski resort of Pyeong Chang where the 2018 Olympics will be held.
