Total Submersion 9 – 16 May 2009
Society members celebrated 10 years of Total Submersion with the PADI Diving Society at Sunset House in Grand Cayman. Eighty PADI Diving Society members met up in Grand Cayman for a week’s worth of fun, great diving and lifetime memories as they celebrated one of the industries longest running dive events!
By day, Society members were diving machines, with Teams Red, White, Blue, Purple and Yellow exploring their favorite Grand Cayman spots - including Trinity Caves, Eagle Ray Rock, the Armchair Reef and Devil’s Grotto. By night, Society members enjoyed socials, dancing and Society fun and games!
Afternoons were packed with digital underwater photography seminars sponsored by Olympus. In-water clinics also helped divers improve their buoyancy , navigation and night diving skills.
The week started off with a Pirates of Cayman Costume Party and Contest. Needless to say everyone got dressed up in his or her best pirate and wench outfit. When the party got into full swing, the guests were sent around the property in full costume on a treasure hunt for something better than gold coins. They were in search of the Total Sub Rubber Duck, which they could redeem for booty from one of the many sponsors.
Midweek Society members jumped onboard and took a boat ride to Rum Point on the north side of the island for the Caribbean Nights Dinner and Party. Known for its picturesque setting, Rum Point was a great excursion during which friends new and old watched the sun set over the Caribbean Sea. There was a spectacular performance by Barefoot Man, and the Total Subers kicked off their shoes and danced on the white sandy beach to his popular musical beat.
The poker-run winners were announced that night, with the highest hand winning the Scubapro MK17/S555 regulator and the Aladin Prime computer.
As usual our friends from Olympus provided the guests with cameras and housings so that everyone could have a chance to capture their underwater memories. Many divers entered the Digital Underwater Photo Contest sponsored by Olympus, which was judged by our expert photo critics, PADI International Director of eBusiness Budd Riker and Sport Diver’s very own Ty Sawyer. Grand prize winner received an Olympus 1030SW shockproof and waterproof digital camera with PT-043 housing. And two First place winners won an Olympus FE-360 camera and housing for their “Best Diver” and “Best Marine Life” photos.
It was an event like no other…
Thanks to all of our Total Submersion sponsors— PADI, Olympus, Scubapro, Sport Diver, DAN, Tortuga Rums, Project AWARE and PADI Travel Network for a great celebration of 10 years at Total Sub!
