Basic Essentials Workshop
The workshop is designed for divers new to Public Safety Diving as well as those wishing to refresh or update their basic public safety skills. The workshop can also provide instructors a template they can effectively use to conduct public safety dive training. PADI Master Instructor Mike Berry from Underwater Criminal Investigators (UCI) will teach the courses.

PADI Public Safety Diver Specialty Course
The PADI Public Safety Diver course familiarizes divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organization, procedures, techniques and hazards of public safety diving. It establishes a solid public safety diving foundation and includes basic rescue skills (both surface and underwater), knot tying, arc search techniques, victim recovery, tender responsibilities, communications and rescue techniques for a distressed public safety diver.
Prerequisites:
- PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Certification (or qualifying certification from another organization).
- 18 years old.
- PADI Rescue Diver course certification is an exit requirement.

PADI Public Safety Diver Specialty Instructor Course
The PADI Public Safety Diver Specialty Instructor Course covers how to organize, promote and conduct the PADI Public Safety Diver Course. It also includes participation in and completion of the entire PADI Public Safety Diver Specialty Course (exceptions will be allowed for those that already have a PADI Public Safety Diver Specialty certification).
Prerequisites:
- PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
- 18 years old
- Completion of the PADI Public Safety Diver Specialty course
**IMPORTANT NOTE: To obtain the PADI Public Safety Diver Specialty Instructor certification, the following exit requirements must be met:
1. PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer
2. PADI Dry Suit Specialty Instructor
3. PADI Full Face Mask Distinctive Specialty Instructor
4. Also, you need any three of these five PADI Specialty Instructor ratings:
• Search and Recovery
• Night Diver
• Underwater Navigator
• Emergency Oxygen Provider
• Limited Visibility Distinctive
5. Current Emergency First Response Instructor (or qualifying rating)
6. Medically evaluated and cleared for diving by a physician within 12 months
7. Proof of affiliation or employment with a public safety team, such as law enforcement, fire fighting, paramedic, EMT, dive rescue team, etc. (A letter from your supervisor or dive team leader is sufficient. If not employed with a public safety dive team, please include in the letter from the dive team leader, how you are affiliated with the team.)
8. 10 public safety diver missions,* or, if a Public Safety Diver Instructor, five missions*and five public safety diver certifications issued
9. Proof of Incident Command Training Level 200 (or regional equivalent).
*The public safety diving missions may include simulations or dive team exercise
PADI Underwater Criminal Investigator Distinctive Specialty Course
This course, with 32 hours of intensive, hands-on training (including one lecture day and three days of open water training), gives you the knowledge, skills and abilities you'll need to succeed as a professional underwater criminal investigator.
Topics include: Readiness, establishing a crime scene, interviewing, crime scene photography and sketching, communications, medical aspects, search patterns, locating and marking evidence, evidence recovery and reservation, fingerprints, body movement in water, body recovery, chemical and polluted water, light and heavy salvage, vehicle recovery, case preparation, courtroom testimony and more.
Prerequisites:
- PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Certification (or qualifying certification from another organization).
- 18 years old.
- PADI Public Safety Diver course certification is strongly encouraged.
