- What’s the difference between being PADI certified and being a PADI Diving Society
member?
Being PADI certified means you have successfully completed the training
necessary to become a safe and competent diver. Your PADI diver certification is
good for life and never needs to be renewed (however, it is highly recommended that
you take a refresher course whenever you have not been diving for an extended period
of time.
The PADI Diving Society is a diver affinity group that you may join at
any time. Society membership is optional, complementing your diver training by providing
a variety of members-only benefits including savings on dive-related purchases,
additional lifestyle benefits, member events and a member publication.
- I have
a PADI card, but I’m not sure if it’s a Society card or my certification card. How
can I tell?
The easiest way to tell if you’re a PADI Diving Society member or just
PADI certified is to check out some details on the card itself. Your certification
card, for example, will include (among other information) your name and photo, along
with your certification level. Your PADI Diving Society member card will clearly
state “PADI Diving Society”, have an expiry date, and does not include your photo.
- Does my certification card make me a Society member? Yes, for a limited period
if certified through the UK office. To give as many divers as possible an opportunity
to enjoy the new benefits of UK Society membership, we are currently offering free
three-month memberships to all new and upgrading divers with UK addresses; from
a practical perspective, and to minimize the production of environmental waste,
we are currently only mailing cards within the UK, however any diver certified through
this office during the period can apply to receive their free card by
mailing us with their request including their latest certification details.
- Does Membership in the PADI Diving Society mean I’m qualified to dive?
Society
membership is open to all water enthusiasts, whether they are divers or not. However,
membership in the PADI Diving Society does not mean you are qualified to dive and
should not be confused with professional PADI training and education. Your PADI
Diving Society card will allow you to take advantage of a variety of member benefits
and savings, but proof of training must be provided to participate in any dive-related
activities.
- Can I join the PADI Diving Society even if I’m not PADI certified?
Absolutely! The PADI Diving Society is open to everyone, particularly all water
enthusiasts.
- I’m a PADI Professional (Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, Instructor,
Course Director). Is my enrollment in the PADI Diving Society complimentary?
Not
currently, however you can earn free Gold membership by becoming a Chapter leader.
For more information contact the UK Society
office.
- I
own/operate a PADI Dive Center or Resort. How can I communicate a member benefit
or member event to the Society membership?
Society events are publicized elsewhere
in this site (click here
to view the Events log), and also from time to time through the pages of Sport Diver
magazine. Log into the Pro section of padi.com for complete Society participation
information, including how to start your own local Society chapter, or
contact the UK Society office.
- How long does it take to receive
my personalized Society membership card and Sport Diver magazine?
Because data file
transfers sometimes fall just after a production run closes at the publishing house,
new members should allow six to eight weeks for their first issue of Sport Diver,
however we usually aim to ship the issue with a cover month immediately following
that which is on sale when we receive the application. Membership cards should be
delivered within three to five weeks.
