Eilat Red Sea - 'World of Underwater Images' 2008
Hosting Photographers of the Year from 11 countries
Tel Aviv, Israel, 1 July, 2008. The 4th annual photography competition will be held 10 – 15 November, 2008 at the Isrotel Yam Suf Hotel. The Eilat Red Sea event combines the hi-tech world with photography, tourism, diving and recreational activities.
Since April, an online competition has been running in ten participating countries. Sport Diver and PADI have partnered with David Pilosof, founder of the event, to host the USA Competition beginning in July. Each month (July and August), one photographer will be chosen as the
'Photographer of the Year'. The winner receives a trip to the Eilat Red Sea competition, including the flight (1 ticket), accommodations and diving at the Eilat event. Voting is done by online voters as well a 5 preselected Judges. Among the USA Competition judges are;
- Ty Sawyer, Editor, Sport Diver Magazine
- Budd Riker of PADI and professional photographer for over 35 years
The Eilat competition is open to all underwater photographers, amateurs and professionals. This year we have more than $80,000 prizes,
diving trips to exotic dive sites around the world and cash money prizes. The first place prize is $10,000 and a trip for two, to Papua New Guinea. Among the other prizes: 1000 bottles of MACABEE beer, Seacam housing ($7,000 value), and the Mayor of Eilat's reward of $2,000.
The contest categories include: The best 5 Images, The best color print, Underwater Humor, Ecology & Nature Care, Wrecks, Best Video Clip and a category for beginners.
This year a Media category has been added where 11 different representatives from 11 diving magazines worldwide will compete for a very special reward: "Winning & Donating". The winner will have a donation made in his or her name for $5,000 towards conservation of extinct shark species.

Eilat Red Sea - "World of Underwater images" competition combines the diving world with hi tech photography and extreme sports, tourism and conservation. The motivating spirit behind the competition is David Pilosof, a veteran underwater photographer and creator of the renowned photo album, "Samantha". Pilosof has participated in many underwater photography competitions himself, and shaped the genre of underwater fashion and nude photography.
