PADI Celebrates Digital Underwater Photography Exhibition at Lapérouse Museum
PADI Asia Pacific recently welcomed various guests to the historic and stately Lapérouse
Museum and Visitor Centre for a Cocktail Evening in conjunction with the NSW National
Parks and Wildlife Service.
The highlight of the event was a special showcase of images taken during PADI’s
successful Digital Underwater Photographic competition, ZOOM IN TO WIN! held last
year at the Bare Island dive site at La Perouse. To coincide with the launch of
PADI’s newest Specialty Course, Digital Underwater Photographer – PADI undertook
this initiative as a fun way to get divers involved and active in their local community.
A significant number of divers who took part in the ZOOM IN TO WIN! competition
were joined in their ‘reunion’ at the exhibition by a very interesting and diverse
group of guests from the local community and dive industry which created a magnificent
atmosphere. Along with the judging team who selected the winning images, over 70
people packed the venue at this event.
Michael Daley MP, Member for Maroubra was among those present. Other guests included
a representation from the following groups, associations and companies: The Guriwal
Aboriginal Corporation, The French School of Sydney, The University of NSW, The
Australian National Sportfishing Association, Land & Sea Sports, and Abyss Scuba
Diving.
Staff and management attended from PADI Asia Pacific and from National Parks &
Wildlife Service; Department of Environment & Climate Change.
Elizabeth Broomhead (Cultural Heritage Curator, Sydney Region - NPWS) welcomed speakers,
Barbara Keeley-Simms (La Perouse Aboriginal Community), Henrik Nimb (Vice President,
Marketing, Education & Business Development - PADI Asia Pacific) and Gary Dunnett,
Manager, Sydney Region - NPWS).
As part of his welcome speech, Henrik Nimb stated - “PADI is very proud that scuba
diving has been responsible for bringing everyone here together tonight. Welcome
to you all. We hope you enjoy the exhibition showcasing this area’s remarkable and
diverse marine life and I congratulate all the contestants that made it possible.
The quality of photography is certainly outstanding and we highly recommend you
bring your family and friends along to view it.“
PADI Asia Pacific would like to express a special thank you to SCUBAPRO UWATEC and
Abyss Scuba Diving for their logistical support at this event.
Also thanks to Elizabeth Broomhead and her team at the Lapérouse Museum and Visitor
