Top liveaboard destinations in Asia Pacific

Divers seeking a new scuba experience should consider liveaboard diving. In liveaboard diving, scuba divers have the opportunity to take the plunge in remote locations, dive multiple times in one day, see some incredible marine life and share many new memories with fellow divers.

You can find great liveaboard trips throughout the world, however the Asia Pacific offers many great regions for liveaboard diving opportunities.

You may consider these four when planning your trip:

Great Barrier Reef, Australia: As the world’s largest coral reef system, there are plenty of reasons to liveaboard in the Great Barrier Reef. The reef offers dive spots for both novice and experienced divers, as well as diverse marine life that you will want to witness over and over again.

Sipadan, Malaysia: In Sipadan, Malaysia, the water is clear and the marine life is colourful. There are over 3,000 marine species to discover and the landscapes under water are just as diverse. There are not too many places where you can find barracudas, sea turtles, whale sharks and many more together in one moment! All in all, Malaysia makes for a great liveaboard diving experience.

Tubbataha, Philippines: Located in the middle of the Sulu Sea and many, many nautical miles away from the nearest port, you have to take a liveaboard trip if you want to visit the Tubbataha Reef in the Philippines. And why wouldn’t you? A part of the “core triangle,” the reef is home to an abundance of coral and fish species.

Similan Islands, Thailand: The Similan Islands in Thailand are often rated among the top dive sites in the world, so it makes sense that many people want to spend more than an afternoon exploring its waters. Dive sites in the islands offer a wide range of underwater landscapes, including caves and boulders, and you might have the chance to explore some underwater wrecks, too!

Raja Ampat & Komodo, Indonesia: These locations are great liveaboard destinations with some stunning dive sites. In Raja Ampat, the reefs at Kofiau host many colourful soft and hard corals that hide myriad creatures while blue and gold fusiliers flow like living rivers of colour overhead. In Komodo, there are dozens of dives sites that can be reached by a day boat, and hundreds in reach around 8-10 hours distance. Some of the most popular and best best known of these include Manta Alley, End of the World and German Flag.
