It can be a pretty freaky experience for divers watching on, but the annual Spider Crab Migration in Port Philip Bay, Australia is an important time for these marine animals. During the Australian autumn and winter months when the water cools, the crabs congregate in their thousands and begin their march, thought to be part of their mating ritual. It is not uncommon for the crabs to shed their shells and at times experiencing mass deaths as part of the process.
