Great news!!!!! I would love to have organized DIVE FOR THE CURE events around the world. My mother is a bresast cancer survivor! I love the idea of project pink and I am sure that diving will bring joy and health to a lot of survivors!!!

Great idea! I am a 10 year survivor who has been able to dive since my diagnoses. It will be great to have more info at our finger tips when we discover new ways our surgical areas may react to diving and also on lymph nose removal and how it may affect out arms. Great idea, I filled out my survey! Entering the underwater world helped me see a whole new world of relaxation!

I am a 4 year Breast Cancer Survivor and got my Open Water Cert. just last Nov. My husband has dove for years and tried to get me to but my fear of the water kept me away. After surviving Cancer I decided that if i can do that I can do pretty much anything even if i had fears so…… I did part of my Padi course at home (book work) and the open water part in Mexico lol! 12 fantastic dives in 14 days – it was absolutely wonderfully serene and the most amazing part for me was laying on the ocean bottom – peering in a hole and seeing a seahorse with my husband beside me. So is diving beneficial to a survivor – absolutely!

What would be really great would be to arrange a dive trip (like on the Aggressor) for breast cancer survivors and their families. I am a breast cancer survivor and don’t know any others who also dive. For me, diving puts things in perspective. Getting to see all the fish and knowing that all they are thinking is ” swim, swim, swim.” Most of us are just left on our own after treatment, it would be good to share our thoughts and feelings with others who have gone through similar times and share the love of diving.

I think that such events can only bring excellent publicity to the world of diving and raise the profile of the potential benefits that diving can bring. I think the fact that this is a scientific study lends even more credibility to the world of scuba diving. Excellent post.

Hi, Great little post and very interesting. I can see that diving might prove therapeutic for a cancer survivor. It is also worth pointing out that a small proportion of men also suffer from breast cancer so perhaps they should be included in such a study (as well as women). It will be interesting to see the results of the study.
